The Profession
I missed the lecture on this topic because I was home with a sick child. So, I will do my best to comment on what I read in the book. The profession of journalism doesn't seem that it is really a profession. There is not a standard that journalists must qualify for each year like a doctor or lawyer need to do. However, the informal connection and "priesthood" of a journalist, creates a bond that hopefully, through their own ethics and beliefs, will be professional and objective. The role of a journalist encompasses many qualities; advocate for the people, and reporting on what they feel the pulse of the area. Reporters will report what they think the people want to hear. The responsibility of a journalist is great. There is a lot of power in a journalists job. Hopefully, the journalist is being true and honest and ethical with that power. It is a vacation that the public wants to trust.
